Description
Common Farmhouse and attached garden walls date from 1817. The farmhouse is built of red brick with painted stone dressings, featuring a plain tile roof and brick gable stacks, with a distinctive sawtooth eaves band. It has a double range plan, standing three storeys high with three bays. A central rustic wooden porch with a gabled roof covers the original doorcase, which contains a panelled door and divided overlight. Tall, three-light windows with horizontal sliding sashes to the lower section and fixed panes above are positioned to either side of the front facade. Matching windows are present above, while a central two-light window sits above the door. Smaller three-light casement windows are located above the side windows of the central two-light window, all set beneath painted rusticated wedge lintels with double keystones. The interior contains a stick baluster staircase, a back staircase positioned between walls, panelled doors and panelled cupboards flanking the western fireplace. Attached to the front of the farmhouse are low brick walls with flat stone copings, terminating in rusticated stone piers topped with pyramidal copings. Original early 19th-century railings and a central gate are situated between the piers. Records confirm the house was built in 1817 by Joseph Hazard.
