Description

This is a terrace of four houses located at 9-11 and 15-17 The Wharf, Shardlow and Great Wilne. The houses were built in the late 18th century and have undergone minor alterations in the 20th century. They are constructed of red brick with gauged brick dressings and have plain tile roofs, brick gable stacks, and three brick ridge stacks, along with stepped eaves bands. Each house is two storeys high and has two bays, with a central doorcase below a flat gauged brick arch. Above the doorcase is a three-light segment-headed casement window, and two similar windows are located on the first floor. Number 9, on the southern end of the terrace, has 20th-century single-pane casement windows and a glazed front door. Number 11 retains an original flush-panelled front door and small-pane casement windows. Number 15, on the northern end, has similar windows to number 11, along with a glazed front door, and Number 17 also has similar windows with a panelled door. These houses were likely built to accommodate canal workers.
