Description
The Cottage is a building located on High Street in Ticknall, consisting of three cottages and a shop, which has now been converted into two cottages. It dates from the early, mid, and late 18th century. The structure is made of red brick and features a plain tile roof, with three brick ridge stacks and a gable stack. Notable architectural details include dentil and sawtooth eaves cornices, a dentil first floor band on part of No 37, and a plain band on No 39.
The west elevation has two storeys and six irregular bays. The leftmost bay, which was originally a shop, projects and contains a Venetian window with a three-light casement above it, all set under a flat arch. There is a small 20th-century window in the return wall, located in a blocked doorway. To the right, there are a three-light casement, a two-light casement, a doorway with a plank door, another three-light casement, a second doorway with a plank door, and a final three-light casement, all under segmental heads. Above, there are four three-light casements, each under flat arches.
