Description

The Elms is a farmhouse located on Trusley Lane in the parish of Osleston and Thurvaston. It dates from the early 17th century but was encased in the early 18th century and re-fronted in the late 19th century. The building features box timber framing on a stone plinth, which is now partly rendered and encased in brick. It has a plain tile roof with a brick gable stack at the north end and another brick stack at the south end, situated between the roofs' valley gutter. The facade includes plain first floor bands and consists of two storeys plus attics with two bays.

The south front was entirely rebuilt in the late 19th century, showcasing a central gabled porch with a 20th-century door, flanked by glazing bar sash windows under shallow segmental heads. Above, there are two similar windows, and above those, two 2-light casements under cambered heads. The west elevation features early 18th-century rendered encasing with a central doorcase, flanked by a 3-light casement window to the north and a plain sash window to the south. Above, to the north, is another 3-light casement under a segmental head.

Inside, the farmhouse retains an exposed timber frame, large inglenook fireplaces with cupboards on either side, a well-crafted splat baluster staircase, and a 17th-century oak panelled door.
