Description
Osleston Hall is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a close studded timber frame set on a stone plinth, which is partly encased in brick and fully rendered. The building has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with brick ridge and gable stacks. It stands two storeys high, plus attics, and consists of three bays, with an advanced gabled crosswing on the east side.
The south elevation includes a 19th-century gabled porch that shelters a glazed panelled door. To the west of the porch is a large 20th-century three-light casement window. To the east, there is a two-light glazing bar casement, and in the crosswing, a three-light glazing bar casement. Above, on the west side, there are similar windows to those below, but in the crosswing, there is a glazing bar sash, and a small single pane window is located in the gable.
The rear elevation features a stone lean-to on the west side, where part of the timber frame is exposed. Inside, the hall boasts fine quality early 17th-century panelling with a fluted frieze in the west bedroom, as well as inglenook fireplaces. The staircase is narrow and has stick balusters on one side. Although much of the timber frame is concealed, the original double purlin roof is still visible in the attics.
