Description
The Well House, located to the east of Butt House, is a structure dated 1699, though it may have been relocated to its current site in the 19th century. It is built from ashlar sandstone and measures 1 metre square and 1.5 metres high.
The west elevation features a 20th-century plank door set within a doorway that has a four-centre arched lintel. The lintel bears the date of 1699 in relief lettering, which is set within a recessed band. The structure is topped with a pyramidal cap consisting of three tiers, surmounted by a ball finial on a tapered stem. A windlass handle protrudes through a crude opening on the south side, with a similar aperture on the north side.
The windlass and its mountings are still present inside the well house.
