Description

The building is a surgery and an attached range of outbuildings located to the north of Close House in Melbourne. It dates from the mid 18th century and mid 19th century, with some minor later alterations. Constructed from red brick on a stone plinth for the southern range, it features plain tile roofs, a gable brick stack, and a dentilled eaves band on the western range, along with two brick ridge stacks on the southern range. The structure is single storey with a garret for the surgery and is arranged in an L-shape.

The southern range contains the surgery at the north end, which has a segment-headed doorcase, a panelled door, and a plain overlight beneath a gabled rustic open porch. To the south, there is a canted bay window with plain sashes, and to the north, a three-light segment-headed casement window. A blank wall is located beyond to the south. The north gable wall features a plain sash window on the ground floor, with a two-light casement window above and several blocked breathers.

The western range, dating from the mid 19th century, has a blank elevation to the north except for a centrally located plank door. The south side includes five sets of double plank doors to the west and a plank door flanked by small pane windows to the east. The interior features sawn timber collared trusses. This building is included in the listing for its group value.
