Description

Thatched Cottage is a late 16th century building that has been converted from three cottages into one. It features square panel timber framing set on a stone plinth, with painted brick nogging and corner braces on the upper panels, and parts of it have been rebuilt in red brick. The roof is thatched and includes a gable brick stack on the east side and one brick ridge stack.

The cottage is a single storey plus attics and consists of six bays. The three eastern bays retain a significant amount of original timber framing, while the western bays have been rebuilt. The easternmost bay has a segment-headed doorcase with a plank door on the west side and a two-light horizontal sliding glazing bar sash window on the east side. There are two similar three-light windows to the west of the door, followed by another segment-headed plank door, a three-light casement window with a similar head, and 20th-century garage doors. These openings are topped with a dentilled eaves band. The westernmost bay has a raised brick ground floor with a central segment-headed two-light horizontal sliding glazing bar sash. Above this, there is an elongated eyebrow dormer featuring two two-light windows, with a sliding sash on the west side and a casement on the east side. Further east, there are four additional eyebrow dormers, each with small paned two-light casements.
