Description

Nos 16 and 18 Potter Street are a pair of houses with shops on the ground floors, dating from the mid-18th century, with some alterations from the late 19th century. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring gauged brick and stone dressings, and No 18 has a stone plinth. The buildings have a steeply pitched plain tile roof, with a brick gable end stack on the west side and a large off-centre ridge stack. The gables are coped with brick on plain stone kneelers, and there is a moulded stone eaves cornice.

Both houses are three storeys tall, with No 16 being a single bay and No 18 having two bays. No 16, located to the west, has steps leading up to a recessed glazed panelled door, which is topped by a plain overlight. There is a triple pane shop window to the west, along with a continuous moulded cornice above. To the east of the door, there is a semi-circular headed opening with a panelled door that leads into an alley between the houses. Above the door, there is a plain sash window beneath a flat gauged brick arch, and another similar smaller window above.

No 18, situated to the east, features central double doors with a plain overlight, recessed between triple paned shop windows, also with a moulded cornice above. On the upper floors, there are two glazing bar sash windows beneath flat gauged brick arches, and above them, there are two smaller windows of a similar style.
