Description

A mid-18th century terrace of three cottages, now partly offices, situated in Potter Street, Melbourne. The cottages are built of rendered brick on a stone plinth, with plain horizontal bands marking the first and second floors. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled, with a large brick ridge stack centrally and a gable brick stack to the west. Stone coped gables are present, featuring plain kneelers, stepped and dentilled eaves bands.

Each cottage is one bay wide. Number 54 to the east has a segmental doorcase containing a flush-panelled door, and a three-light horizontal sliding glazing bar sash window to the east. Above this is a similar window and a two-light segmental-headed garret window in the east gable wall. Number 52 has similar ground floor openings, but reversed, with a three-light window above the western door, a single-light segmental-headed casement window over the door, and a flat-headed three-light horizontal sliding glazing bar sash window above that. Number 50 to the west has a flat-headed doorcase with a plank door, and two two-light segment-headed windows to the west; the eastern window has small-pane casements and the western has a horizontal sliding glazing bar sash. Above these are a central three-light horizontal sliding glazing bar sash window and, above that, a similar flat-headed three-light window. Attics are present at numbers 50 and 52, and a garret at number 54.
