Description
Woodhouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 17th century, with a large addition from the early 19th century and significant alterations. The original part features a mutilated close studded timber frame with brick nogging set on a stone plinth, while the later addition is made of red brick with painted stone dressings. The 17th-century section has a slate roof with brick ridge and gable stacks, whereas the early 19th-century part has a half-hipped plain tile roof with a brick side wall stack and a dentilled eaves band.
The building is L-shaped, with a three-bay 17th-century section to the north and a taller, advanced early 19th-century addition to the east, both of which are two storeys high. At the angle between the two wings is a two-storey porch from the early 19th century. The south elevation features a 20th-century three-light casement window to the west and a segment-headed doorcase to the east. Further east, there is a three-light 19th-century casement window and the advanced 19th-century porch, which has a semi-circular headed doorcase with a raised and fielded panelled door beneath a traceried fanlight. A rustic porch has been added above the door.
The early 19th-century wing to the east has glazing bar sashes under flat arch lintels on both the west and south walls, with similar windows above, including a two-light casement window above the porch. The 17th-century wing to the west has a similar two-light casement window. Inside, there are inglenook fireplaces in two of the western rooms, the original winder staircase, and a close studded timber partition in the 17th-century wing, along with an elegant stick baluster staircase in the addition.
