Description
The steps, gates, and railings located at the south-east corner of the graveyard of St James' Church in Smisby date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared sandstone and ashlar, with wrought iron elements. A broad flight of five stone steps leads up to paired gates, which are topped by an arch that supports a lamp bracket. To the right, there is a single gate. The entrance features gableted iron gate piers, with a low coped wall on either side that is finished with gableted polygonal end piers. Between these walls are plain spike railings. This structure is listed for its group value only.
