Description

The cottages at 24 and 26 Wilne Lane date to the 17th century, with later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. They are constructed of timber framing, with plaster and brick nogging, and some areas rebuilt in red brick, all now painted. The roofs are tiled, with a substantial brick ridge stack on the No. 24 cottage.

No. 26, to the north, retains a substantially complete timber frame on the front elevation, displaying four panels of framing with corner braces to the upper panels. It has two leaded casement windows on each floor. A 20th-century lean-to has been added to the ground floor of the north gable, and a queen post truss is visible above.

No. 24, attached to the south, exhibits only fragments of the original timber frame, with the wall plate and three posts remaining, including two on the front elevation with corner braces. The ground floor has a three-light, flat-headed horizontal sliding glazing bar sash window to the south, and two 20th-century casement windows to the north. The upper floor has two small-pane two-light casements. Similar windows are found on the gable wall and the 19th-century rear addition.
