Description

The range of outbuildings to the north of Rufford Farmhouse dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, topped with stone slate and concrete tile roofs. This long, two-storey structure features advanced wings at the center and west end, both of which have hipped gables and single-storey lower extensions. Attached to the west end is a single-storey outbuilding with a conventionally gabled roof, featuring a semicircular brick arched opening that springs from quoining. The west side wall has two openings with quoins integrated into the brickwork, along with a brick and stone pier. The main range and crosswings include plain doorways beneath stone lintels, some first-floor slit breathers, and hopper windows with glazing bars. The central wing has two tall ground-floor openings with rectangular overlights on the west side wall, and a flight of stone steps leads to a first-floor doorway. The building is listed for its group value.
