Description
This is a late 18th century or early 19th century milestone located approximately 25 meters south of the junction of Rod Moor Road and Barnes Lane in Dronfield. It features the Calver twin-panel design.
The milestone is made from an upright flagstone with painted lettering, which may have been applied over a carved inscription. It is positioned on the east side of Rod Moor Road, on a grass verge. The stone is rectangular with rounded shoulders and is set vertically into the ground. The mileages are painted within two semi-circular panels, reading: GLEADLESS/5/MILES and CALVER/9/MILES. The names of the destinations follow the curve of each arch.
