Description

The gatepiers at Woodthorpe Hall are a pair of stone structures dating from the early 17th century. They are made of rusticated ashlar gritstone and stand approximately 3 metres high. The piers rise from shallow plinths that feature moulded drips at mid height. At the top, they have boldly projecting cornices that support banded ball finials. These piers were originally located at Derwent Hall, which was submerged by the Derwent Reservoir, and they were re-erected on their current site in 1942.
