Description

46 Hadfield Road is a house built in 1776, with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of narrow coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof with three rendered stacks. The building has a two-unit plan with an off-centre entry into a double-depth house.

The house is two storeys high with a basement and garret. It has flush ashlar quoins and a plinth. The front facade displays a regular two-window range, with a slightly off-centre 20th-century door that has a rectangular overlight in a flush ashlar surround. The lintel above the door is inscribed with 'JEB/ 1776'. There are single windows with 20th-century casements and louvred shutters on either side of the door, and above are two similar windows. To the left, the basement has a single two-light flush mullion window.

The left side of the house is rendered and features two single-storey extensions, with a single three-light casement window under a narrow lintel and a small garret window with diamond paned glass above. The right side has a small window above a three-light window, both from the 20th century, as well as three small blocked garret windows. The rear elevation is rendered, with later additions enclosing the back of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
