Description

80, 82, and 84 Hadfield Road are two cottages and an attached barn, now converted into three dwellings, dating from 1744 with 20th-century alterations. The buildings are constructed of millstone grit, which is rendered and incised, featuring tooled stone dressings. They have a stone slate roof and rendered stone ridge stacks.

The plan originally consisted of two single-fronted, double-depth cottages with an adjoining barn that has been converted into a baffle entry house. The exterior is two stories high, with the street front displaying four windows arranged in a 2:2 pattern. Nos. 80 and 82, located on the right, each feature a single 3-light recessed mullion window, with No. 82's window being slightly larger and having horizontal glazing bars. Each cottage has a doorway to the left; No. 82's doorway is recessed with a wooden lintel and a glazed door, while No. 80 has a painted stone surround and a 20th-century door. Above each doorway is a similar 3-light mullion window.

No. 84, the converted barn on the left, has irregular fenestration, with a doorway to the left, a small adjoining window, and a 20th-century door. To the right, there is a single 3-light recessed window, a 2-light casement above, and a single 3-light flush mullion window at eaves level. All windows feature diamond leaded panes. The left return has been reordered in the 20th century. The rear elevation of No. 84 includes a plinth and a large cart entrance that has been converted to patio doors.

Inside, No. 82 has a stopped and chamfered beam in the main room, a spice cupboard with H-hinges, and a possibly replaced door. Originally, there were interconnecting doors between Nos. 82 and 84.
