Description
The former malthouse, dated 1780, is located to the south of 'The Elms' on Duffield Road in Little Eaton. It is now used for various agricultural and light industrial purposes and forms the south side of the crew yard. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and features a roof made of Welsh slate and corrugated asbestos, with a raised roof ventilator on the east side.
The malthouse is two storeys high with an irregular north elevation. On the ground floor, there is a blocked doorway with a stone lintel, two single light windows with stone surrounds, a doorway with a stone lintel, and a later window. The first floor includes a 2-light 18th-century mullioned window and seven later casement windows. Above, there is another 2-light mullioned window and three single light 18th-century windows with stone surrounds, two of which are now blocked. The twin gable end to the west has two blocked 3-light mullioned windows.
The south elevation features irregular, mostly 20th-century fenestration, including five 2-light mullioned windows on the first floor and two single light windows above. A range to the left has one 18th-century single light window and larger openings from the 19th century. Part of the roof is said to contain an upper cruck truss. The building is listed for its group value only.
