Description
This is a barn with byres and hay lofts located southeast of 'The Elms' in Little Eaton, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and features a corrugated asbestos roof with stone-coped gables. The building is one and two storeys high.
On the west elevation, there is a large cart entrance with a segmental arch and a pair of plank doors. To the left of this entrance, there are two doorways and two windows, all with stone lintels. To the right, there are three doorways featuring segmental pointed arches and stone voussoirs. Above these, there are four tiers of breathers and one later opening with a stone lintel. A further range to the right, which is slightly set back, has two doorways with stone lintels, each flanked by windows with segmental pointed arches. There are also two similar windows above and one more above that.
The road elevation includes a tall cart entrance on the right and external stone stairs on the left that lead up to a loft doorway with a segmental arch and stone voussoirs. There are six upper openings, mostly blocked, with segmental arches, stone voussoirs, and quoins, along with four tiers of breathers. The interior is said to contain large stone feeding troughs.
