Description
31 Church Street is a mid-19th century building that, despite its later construction date, possesses character and contributes to the dignity of the street. It is built of ashlar and stands two storeys tall, featuring three windows framed in moulded architraves with dripstones, the lower windows supported by consoles. There is a decorative band present. The entrance is rusticated and arched on each side. The advanced sills of the lower windows rest on moulded square piers, which are raised upon a continuous vermiculated plinth, with the spaces filled by cast-iron screens designed in an open wavy pattern. The building is topped with a massive stone cornice that has dentilled modillions and a band of guilloche enrichment below. This property is part of a group that includes Nos 17 to 41 (odd).
