Description
No. 3 Barnwell Lane is a house from the mid-18th century, reputedly dated 1761. It is built of coursed rubble with a tiled roof and features brick end stacks. The house has two storeys and a two-unit plan, with the right-hand room possibly having been a barn originally. The other room includes a large end fireplace and contains the entrance passage with stairs leading to the rear. The front elevation has a roughly regular two-window range, with windows that have chamfered stone surrounds, although the mullions are now missing. One mullioned window remains on the rear elevation. Inside, the left-hand room has a fireplace that is corbelled with a chamfered lintel, although part of the chamfer has been hacked back. The original joists are present, but there is no ceiling beam. There is a change of level between the two rooms, which are connected by a doorway with a pegged surround.
