Description

House. Probably dating to the 1780s or 1790s, or alternatively the late 18th century, constructed of coursed rubble with tiled roof. It is set end-on and well back from the road. The house is two storeys high, with a gable-end entry. It exhibits decorative detailing consistent with the initial phase of houses built by Richard Arkwright, including one two-light stone mullioned window on each floor to the gable front. The doorway features a substantial rectangular lintel with roughly carved capitals and bases to the imposts. Two small windows are present on the rear gable wall, and one side wall has a renewed brick chimney shaft, while the other has a lean-to addition. Alternatively, it is a single gabled bay, two storeys high, built of gritstone with gritstone dressings and a plain tile roof with a single brick stack. The doorway, located on the right, has flush dressed jambs and lintel and a 20th-century half-glazed door, with a single two-light flush mullion window to the left, and similar window above. It is listed for group value only.
