Description
This is a pair of table tombs located 20 yards southeast of the porch of St Chad's Church. One tomb dates from 1686 and the other from 1741. They are made of sandstone. The first tomb is a plain table tomb with rusticated corners and fluted pilasters on the center of each long side facing north. The north side features a brass plaque that reads, "Here lieth the body of William Brown of Nether Thurvaston who departed this life January the 7, 1741 in the 62nd year of his Age." The second tomb, located to the southeast, has raised and fielded panelled sides. The stone slab above it bears an inscription on the sides that states, "Here lieth the body of William Brown of Nether Thurvaston who departed this life in the year of our Lord 1686 and of his age 19." These tombs are included for their group value.
