Description

The Longford Almshouses are a row of six almshouse cottages built in the early 19th century for the Cokes of Longford Hall. They are constructed of red brick with stone dressings and feature a hipped roof that was originally plain tiled. The roof has a brick sawtooth eaves band and brick ridge stacks. Each cottage is single storey and consists of a single bay. The main elevation faces west, with each cottage displaying a similar doorcase and window surround.

The arrangement of the elevation from south to north includes a doorcase with a window to the north, followed by a space, then a group of windows, two adjacent doors, and another window beyond. There is a similar grouping of two central doors with flanking windows to the north. The doorcases are made of stone with a staff-moulded edge and originally had panelled doors, of which only one remains. The windows were also staff-moulded at the edges and featured lozenge-pattern metal casements, of which only one fragment remains. Inside each cottage, there is a simple stone fireplace and a bed recess. Currently, all the cottages are in a ruinous condition.
