Six Monuments In The Churchyard Between 6 And 10 Metres West Of The Chapman Cross

This listing describes a group of six chest tombs located in the churchyard, positioned between 6 and 10 meters west of the Chapman Cross. These tombs date from the 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of limestone.

The southernmost tomb in the group is from the early 19th century and features two octagonal fielded panels, pilasters adorned with rosettes, and shield-shaped end panels. To the north, there is a low tomb with two oval fielded panels and pilasters, both of which bear illegible inscriptions.

There are three late 18th-century tombs belonging to the Brown family to the north. The southernmost of these has plain panels and a bas-relief carved urn, along with fluted pilasters and a weathered frieze on top. The middle tomb, dedicated to Thomas Brown who died in 1795, features an oval fielded panel, high-relief carved urns on either side, and quarter balusters. The northern tomb is from the early 19th century and includes one egg and dart moulded panel, carved drapery, fluted pilasters, and a weathered frieze on top.

Lastly, there is a tomb to the west for members of the Harris family, which has an octagonal central panel flanked by fielded pilasters and scrolled ornament.
