Description
The Old Smithy in Little Cubley is a house and workshop that dates back to 1817, with later additions and alterations. It is built of red brick with brick dressings and features a hipped plain tile roof, which has a central brick ridge stack and a sawtooth eaves band. The building consists of two storeys, with a single-storey workshop attached.
The eastern elevation facing the road has a 20th-century four-light casement window, topped with tiles. To the north, there is a recessed lean-to that includes a semi-circular headed doorcase with a 20th-century glazed door. To the south is the workshop, which has two three-light windows with segmental heads. The south gable wall features large double plank doors set beneath a rough timber lintel. Above the four-light window, there is a simple datestone inscribed '1817', and above that, a three-light glazing bar casement window under a segmental head.
