Description
The stable block to the west of Hopton Hall is a former laundry, stables, and outbuildings, now partly converted into dwellings. It dates from the late 18th century and 19th century. The building features part red brick with gritstone dressings and part gritstone rubble, with roofs that are partly slate with leaded ridges and partly stone slate. There is a red brick square clock turret on the south range, which has a stone slate roof and rendered circular faces on each side with gritstone surrounds.
The structure is two stories high, except for the single-story north range. It forms a building around a paved courtyard. The oldest part is located in the northeast corner, made of red brick with a Venetian window to the east, set in gritstone. The south and west ranges are constructed from 19th-century gritstone rubble and feature small paned casement windows. The middle of the south range has four large semi-circular arches with quoined surrounds. The north range consists of 19th-century brick stables, which include three doors and five small paned horizontal sliding sashes. Inside, there are 19th-century stable fittings, mahogany doors, and iron grills with finials.
