Description
The war memorial, built around 1918 by Borrowdale of Worksop, is made of Portland stone ashlar. It stands on a square base with two steps and is surrounded by eight obelisks linked by chains. The memorial features a tapering pedestal with a stepped and moulded base and a moulded cap. The sides are inscribed with the words "Sacred to the Memory of the Brave Men of this Parish who fell in the Great War 1914-1919," along with the names of local men who lost their lives in both world wars and one who died in Korea in 1953. The lettering is in lead, and it also bears the inscription "Borrowdale/Sculptor/Worksop." At the top, there is a life-size sculpture of a soldier in First World War uniform.
