Description
Creswell Church of England Infants School is a disused school building founded in 1874 by the Portland Estate, with later contributions in 1881 and 1886 by William Fils and George Stevenson, and around 1900 by Brewill & Bally. It is designed in the Jacobean style, constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and quoins, and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building features various brick stacks and stone-coped gables with plain kneelers and spearhead and ball finials.
The north elevation consists of six irregular bays. On the left, a projecting gabled bay contains a high-set 5-light chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould, along with a louvred bell-cote. The entrance, set back to the right, has a round-arched doorway with key and impost blocks, accompanied by a small single-light window on the left. To the right of the entrance are two 4-light mullioned and transomed windows flanking a canted bay window that breaks through the eaves, rising to a parapet and gable. This bay window features a configuration of 1-4-1 lights with two transoms. The projecting gabled bay to the right includes two 3-light chamfered mullion windows with two transoms, and further right is a 3-light mullioned and transomed window that rises into a gabled dormer, which has ball finials on the kneelers.
