Description
The stable block at Barlborough Hall, now converted into accommodation, dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of brick, rubblestone, and ashlar, topped with machine tile roofs featuring coped gables and plain kneelers. The building consists of three ranges surrounding a courtyard and is two storeys high.
The east elevation has a layout of 2-5-3 bays. On the left, there is a single storey gabled section with two bays that features a pair of blind round arches enclosing stone cross windows, along with a blind circular window in the gable. To the right, five symmetrical bays include a central doorway with a keyed moulded segmental arch, flanked by half-columns that support a cornice. Each side has two cross windows, with five additional cross windows above. The three broader bays to the right contain three cross windows on each floor.
The north elevation has eight bays with single light and two-light windows. In the centre, there are three two-light windows with two transoms. Above, three gabled dormers each feature a two-light mullioned window. The courtyard elevations have 20th-century fenestration. This stable block is included in the listing for its group value.
