Description
The gates, attached wall, and war memorial located to the north of St Michael's Church date from around 1841 and 1920. They are made of wrought iron, coursed squared gritstone, and granite. The structure features a curved stone retaining wall on both the east and west sides of the churchyard, topped with rounded copings. A pair of iron gates stands to the north, designed with dograils at the base, curled finials on the intermediate vertical rails, and a frieze at the top adorned with scrollwork. Above the gates is a scrolled overthrow with a fleur de lys finial on the meeting rail, and an iron lantern arch with a central lantern and scrollwork on either side.
To the west of the gates is a lower section of walling that includes a Celtic cross, which serves as a war memorial. The cross features carved interlace at the head and a sloping base inscribed with the names of the men from Holbrook who died in the Great War. Below the cross, attached to the wall, is a slate plaque listing additional names.
