Description

This tomb, located seven metres west of the tower of All Saints Church, dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of sandstone ashlar. It is a square chest tomb featuring a moulded base and sunk panels. The south face is inscribed with the words: "Near this tomb/Lieth interred the body/of Sarah Emes/who died in her infancy/AD 1766." The tomb has a moulded cornice and is topped by a squat, concave-sided obelisk, with each face adorned with a flaming urn in high relief.
