Description
Castle Cottages is a terrace of four cottages, now converted into two, dating from the 18th century and raised in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and red brick, topped with a Welsh slate roof that features two brick ridge stacks. It stands two storeys high and has a chamfered stone plinth, likely made from stone taken from the nearby castle.
The south elevation consists of four bays. On the ground floor, from the left, there is a blocked doorway with a segmental arch, followed by two 2-light casement windows under segmental arches, a doorway with a segmental arch and a plank door, another similar blocked doorway, two more 2-light casement windows, and a final doorway with a segmental arch. The upper floor has four 2-light casement windows under flat arches.
