Description

This milepost, located 20 metres west of Denby Pottery Works, dates from around 1840 and is made of cast iron. It features a triangular sectioned base, with the east side inscribed with the distances to Derby (8 miles) and Burton (19 miles). The west side has the inscriptions 'ALFn/5 1/2 CHESTd/16'. Above the base is a triangular sloping top, which supports a headpiece that is also triangular in shape, inscribed with '134/LONDON'.
