Description
The retaining walls to the weir adjacent to the Glow-worm Foundry are 18th century structures. They feature a pre-Strutt stone paved sloping weir with a concave curve on the upstream side. The walls are related to a mill-goit that has sluice gates on each side of the river; the northern goit was used to power the Strutt foundry, while the southern goit served the Milford Cotton Mills. Additionally, the stone bases for a former iron footbridge across the weir remain in place.
