Description
The canal bridge at Shipley Gate, built in 1779 by engineer John Varley, is a Grade II listed structure. It is constructed of red brick and features stone copings. The bridge has a low single segmental brick arch with plain brick parapets above, which are topped by flat stone copings. The side walls of the bridge splay outwards and terminate in square brick piers. This bridge is part of the Erewash Canal.
