Description
This group of artisans' cottages, now used as craft workshops, dates from around 1870. They are constructed of brick with slate roofs and feature ashlar dressings. The eaves are half-round and dentillated, and there are two ridge stacks. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of five bays. The windows are margin light sashes with splayed lintels, and the doors include overlights. The street front has a central entry with a keystone, flanked by single doors. To the right, there are two sashes, and to the left, there are more single doors. Above the central entry, there is a round-headed sash flanked by two sashes. The rear elevation features openings with segmental heads, a central entry flanked by small casements, and additional single doors and sashes. Each end of the building has a lean-to wash house, each with a door and a casement in the return angle. The ends also have two small casements, and above, there is a small central casement flanked by two sashes. These buildings are part of the setting of the D. H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum.
