Description
The war memorial in Kilburn was built in the early 20th century to honor those who died in the South African War of 1899-1902, also known as the Boer War. It is made of polished grey and red granite and marble, featuring a slender obelisk atop a pedimented base. This base is set on a four-stepped inscribed platform, which rises from a shallow platform within a raised, sloping, paved enclosure. The memorial is surrounded by stone walls at the front, rear, and right-hand sides, with the side wall stepped and a flight of steps providing access to the top of the memorial enclosure. Names of those who fell in the two World Wars were added later.
