Description

This gateway, located 20 meters east of St Mary's School, was built around 1844. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings. The gateway features a round arch with a hood mould and square piers that have plinths. There are 20th-century wooden gates. Above the arch, there is a gable topped with a pediment, and a stone panel that reads "St Mary's Schools Boys Entrance." The former Baptist chapel was converted into a church school around 1844 and is now a casino in Plumptre Place. This gateway is included for its group value.
