Description

Numbers 6 and 8 on Plumptre Street are three houses that have been converted into warehouses and workshops. They were built around 1800 and the early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The buildings are made of red brick and have slate roofs, featuring two brick gable stacks. They stand three storeys tall and have a window arrangement of 1:4.

The left block, which is the taller one and dates from the early 19th century, has a single bay. It has a rendered plinth and a wooden gutter. On the ground floor, there is a plain door with steps to the right and a 19th-century segment-arched double door with an overlight to the left. Each floor above features a large segment-headed glazing bar sash window.

The block on the right, built around 1800, also has a rendered plinth and wooden eaves. It has a blocked doorway flanked by wide segment-headed glazing bar sashes that were reglazed in the mid-19th century. Above this, there are four original segment-headed glazing bar sashes, and above those, four smaller sashes with flat heads. This building illustrates the transition of the Lace Market area from residential to commercial use.
