Description
Numbers 8 and 9 on St James' Terrace are three houses that have been converted into offices. They were built around 1775 and underwent alterations in the mid-19th century, with restoration completed in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a rendered plinth and painted ashlar dressings. The roof is a renewed gabled and hipped design, covered with plain tiles and featuring renewed wooden modillion eaves and a gable stack.
The structure stands three storeys tall, plus garrets, and has a five-window range. The windows are topped with wedge lintels. The main block, which projects to the right, has four windows; the left side features renewed windows, while the right retains original glazing bar sashes. In the center, there is an original six-panel door with a fanlight, alongside a renewed door to its left. To the left, a single set-back bay has a renewed window on each floor. Additionally, there is a wooden doorcase with a pediment on brackets, which frames an original six-panel door and overlight.
