Description
No. 68 St James' Street is a mid-18th century town house that has been converted into a veterinary surgery. It is constructed of red brick with painted ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with a brick gable stack. The building has a painted plinth, a ground floor impost band, a first floor sill band, and a wooden triglyph frieze with a cornice. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range of 12-pane sash windows with brick flat arches. The ground floor includes a central tripartite glazing bar sash window flanked by pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. To the right, there is an altered six-panel door with a fanlight, and to the left, a similar round-arched passage opening with another six-panel door. A segment-arched cellar opening is also present. The interior is reputed to contain the original staircase and fireplaces.
