Description
The gate piers and screen walls at the entrance to Waterloo Promenade date from the mid to late 19th century and are made of ashlar and cast iron. They consist of a pair of square gate piers with chamfered corners and moulded plinths. Each pier features a massive square cap with enriched segmental pediments, which are topped with the remains of cast iron lamps. Flanking each side are low ashlar screen walls that are topped with a cut-down railing. At each end of the screen walls, there is a square pier with a moulded plinth and a concave-sided pyramidal cap. This structure is one of several gateways and screens built by Nottingham Corporation at the entrances to the Forest and Waterloo Promenade.
