Description

Provident Works, Office and boundary walls is a lace tenement factory built around 1860 and altered in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring ashlar and brick dressings, with gabled and hipped slate roofs behind a parapet. It has a plinth, a second-floor sill band, a modillion cornice, and a string course. The windows are primarily original cast-iron glazing bar casements with wedge lintels. The structure is four storeys high and consists of 2:14 bays.

To the left, there is a slightly recessed block with two bays, which includes windows on the left and loft doors on the right on all floors. The main block to the right has regular fenestration. The left return has three bays, featuring a pair of windows to the left and loft doors to the right. At the rear, there is a square factory chimney with a cornice and a short coped upper stage. The office block at the south corner is two storeys high and consists of a single bay with a rounded corner and a single segment-arched plain sash window on each floor.

There is a later extension to the northwest, which is three storeys tall and features blue brick bands and ashlar dressings, along with a blue brick plinth, a decorative eaves band, and coped gables. The front facing Russell Street has two gables with bracketed eaves, and the top floor has three graduated windows on each floor. Along Gamble Street, there is a coped wall with a double gateway, approximately 10 meters long, and along Newdigate Street, there is a similar wall with ashlar coping, approximately 25 meters long, featuring a double gate to the left and a doorway to the right.
