Description

The County War Memorial, located at the southwest corner of the churchyard to Church of St Mary, dates to circa 1920. It is constructed of ashlar and comprises a central cross, steps, wrought-iron gates, and flanking walls. The memorial features a tall central cross set upon a traceried octagonal base and a stepped octagonal pedestal, which includes an inscribed tablet. Tapering flights of steps lead to the head of the pedestal, where two pairs of wrought-iron gates are positioned. Splayed walls, with moulded coping and square pedestals topped with square iron lanterns, flank the steps. Square Portland stone tablets, inset into the walls, bear inscriptions listing Nottinghamshire parishes and the number of those who died.
