Description

The lace factory and warehouse, located on Mansfield Road in Nottingham, dates from around 1825, with later modifications in the mid-19th century and a front range added around 1890. It is constructed of red brick with a rendered plinth and features slate roofs. The original factory section to the west is five storeys tall and has an eight-window range. The left two bays are hidden by a later addition that includes four 4-light casements, while to the right are two 3-light casements. Above these, there are two floors featuring two glazing bar sashes on the left and six 4-light casements to the right. The top floor, added in the mid-19th century, has nearly continuous windows. To the north, there are lower wings with glazing bar sashes, most of which have been renewed. The east front, now concealed by a late 19th-century street front, has similar window arrangements. The street front itself is four storeys high with a nine-window range and showcases elaborate moulded terracotta ornamentation. The ground floor features an off-centre segment-headed cart entrance flanked by double doorways, with a single shopfront to the left and two similar shopfronts to the right. Above this, three floors contain nine plain sashes set in moulded brick surrounds. Inside, the factory features cast-iron columns. This building is notable for being the earliest surviving lace factory in Nottingham.
