Description

The Peacock Public House is a public house built around 1850, with alterations made in the mid and late 20th century. It is constructed of brick, featuring a rendered ground floor and a slate roof with two brick stacks. The building has painted ashlar dressings, including a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and moulded eaves. The windows are mostly original, with wedge lintels on the first floor. The structure is three storeys tall and has a three-by-two window arrangement.

Situated on a corner site, the building has a rounded corner entrance bay, which includes a blocked doorway with splayed brackets supporting a rounded cornice. Above this entrance, there is a glazing bar sash window with a moulded surround and a bracketed cornice, and another similar window above it, also with a moulded surround and bracketed eaves. The Mansfield Road facade features a central doorway with pilasters and an overlight, flanked by two-light plain casements with wooden transoms and stone shafts. The left return has a similar irregular arrangement of windows, with a blank space on the upper two floors.

Inside, the pub retains much of its original character, including a panelled plaster ceiling with cornices. The right bar area has panelled wainscotting and original fitted benches, complete with bell pushes.
