Description
20 and 22 Carlton Street are two houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They were built around 1800 and have been altered in the early and late 20th century. The buildings are made of painted brick with painted ashlar dressings and feature a slate roof with a single ridge and two gable stacks. The wooden eaves cornice has been renewed. The structure is three storeys high and has a four-window range. On the left side, there are two original 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and two 9-pane sash windows above. On the right side, there are two plain sash windows on each floor. All the windows have wedge lintels with double keystones. The central entry is round-arched and features a door with iron grilles. To the left, there is an early 20th-century shopfront with a recessed central door and fascia, while to the right, there is a late 20th-century shopfront.
