Description
34 to 40 Carlton Street is a row of four houses with attic workshops, now used as shops and offices. They were built around 1770 and have been altered in the late 19th century and late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with painted ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs with two gable stacks. There are second and third-floor sill bands and a wooden modillion eaves cornice. The structure has four storeys plus attics and a seven-window range. Most of the windows are original glazing bar sashes with wedge lintels, and those on the first and second floors also have cornice keystones. The attics have continuous glazing with swing casements, while the ground floor has three 20th-century shopfronts.
